If you have the mnemonic phrase, private key, or Keystore for an existing TRON account, you can import the account into the TronLink wallet extension. This guide uses importing a TRON account with a private key as an example. Differences for mnemonic and Keystore imports are explained at the end.
Install the TronLink extension in Google Chrome and update it to the latest version. For installation instructions, see Guide to Download TronLink Extension. The interface may vary between versions.
1. Open the import page
Click the TronLink extension icon in your browser and select “Import Wallet” on the welcome page. If the extension already contains an account, unlock it and follow step 6 to open the import page.
If the “User Agreement” appears on first use, read it, scroll to the bottom, and click “I agree, no more reminders”.
2. Enter your private key
Paste or enter the private key of the account you want to import into the input box on the “Import Wallet” page. The private key must be a 64-character hexadecimal string. Check that it is correct, then click “Next”.
3. Enter the account details
Enter a name in the “Wallet Name” field. The name must contain 2–14 characters.
- Importing your first account into this extension: Set a password and enter it again to confirm. It must contain at least eight characters, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers.
- Importing an additional account: If the extension already contains an account and is unlocked, you do not need to set another password.
When you have finished, click “Next”.
Keep your extension password safe. It is used to unlock the wallet and access your mnemonic phrase, private key, or Keystore. TronLink does not store your password and cannot recover it for you. Keep your account backups safe as well.

4. Select the network and import
In the “Select Network” dialog, select “TRON”, then click “Import Private Key”. If you also want to import an EVM account, you can select EVM at the same time. A network on which the corresponding account has already been imported cannot be selected again.
If an option to import a GasFree wallet at the same time is shown, select or clear it as needed. This option is not required to import your regular TRON account.
5. Check the imported account
After a successful import, the extension displays a success message and opens the wallet home page. Check that the account name and address shown on the TRON network match the account you intended to import.
6. Import additional accounts
Click the account name in the upper-left area of the wallet home page to open “Switch Wallet”. Click “Add Wallet” at the top, then select “Import Wallet”. Continue using the mnemonic phrase, private key, or Keystore for the account you want to import.
Differences for mnemonic and Keystore imports
Importing a mnemonic phrase
Enter a valid mnemonic phrase containing 12 or 24 English words into the same input box. Keep the words in their original order, separate them with spaces, and click “Next”.
When you import a mnemonic phrase on first use of the extension, the page explains that HD wallet accounts will be created on both TRON and EVM networks. Enter the wallet name, set and confirm your password, then click “Import Mnemonic”. An HD wallet import success page appears when the import is complete.
When importing another mnemonic phrase into an extension that already contains a wallet, you may first see network and account selection pages. Check the network, account name, and address, then click “Import Account”. Use “Change Account” if you need to select a different derived address.
If the mnemonic phrase has already been used for the extension’s HD wallet, do not import it again. To add another account from that HD wallet, choose “Create Sub Account” on the “Add Wallet” page.

Importing a Keystore
Keystore imports support TRON accounts only. Paste the Keystore contents into the input box, or click “Import via Keystore File” to select a file. File selection supports .txt files only.
Click “Next”, enter the wallet name and the original password for that Keystore, then click “Import Keystore”. If this is the first account you import into the extension, the Keystore password also becomes your extension unlock password. If the extension already contains an account, its existing unlock password remains in use, and the Keystore password is used only to decrypt the file for this import.
If an option to import a GasFree wallet at the same time is shown, select or clear it as needed. After a successful import, the extension displays a success message and opens the wallet home page.
