If you are looking to use the latest version of TronLink or want to migrate to a new device, you might have to upgrade the cold-wallet end of your TronLink App. Here are the steps to guide you through the process.
For security assurance, the process requires three mobile phones:
Phone A: The current device of your cold wallets
Phone B: The new device for your cold wallets (upgraded version)
Phone C: The hot wallet interface for managing cold wallets on both Phone A and Phone B
Preparation Steps
1. Back up cold wallet data
- Before starting, ensure the crucial data of your cold wallets on Phone A, including mnemonics and private keys, has been reliably backed up.
- Use a secure backup method, like manually noting down the information and keeping it in a safe place (e.g., a safe or a water and fire-proof storage box).
- Important: Never store your mnemonics and private keys on any Internet-connected device to prevent potential hacking.
2. Prepare a new device
- Get Phone B ready, which should be either brand-new or has been reset.
Update TronLink
3. Install the latest version of TronLink
- Briefly connect Phone B to the Internet and download the newest TronLink version through official channels (App Store or Google Play). Once the installation completes, disconnect Phone B from the Internet.
- Enable airplane mode or turn off Wi-Fi and cellular data for Phone B, and maintain this offline state for subsequent steps.
4. Import cold wallets
- Open TronLink on Phone B, and tap "Switch to Cold Wallet Mode".
- Choose one of these import methods:
- Manually enter the mnemonic or private key, choose the target address, and then tap "Import Mnemonic" to confirm import and enter TronLink's homepage.
- Open the QR code of the mnemonic or private key on Phone A, and use Phone B to scan and import the cold wallet.
The following figure illustrates the specific steps.
- Important: When scanning or entering the mnemonic, private key, or Keystore file, make sure you are in a completely safe environment.
Steps After Update
5. Verify imported addresses
- After importing cold wallets to Phone B, tap the wallet switching button to confirm whether the addresses match those on Phone A.
- If the addresses do not match, stop immediately and verify all mnemonics or private keys.
6. Test wallet functionalities
- Perform a small test transfer between the hot and cold wallets to confirm everything works correctly on the new device.
- Initiate the transfer on Phone C and use Phone B for signature. For more information about the signing process, refer to the cold wallet user guide.
- Confirm receipt of the transfer.
Follow-up Steps
7. Handle the old device
- Options for Phone A:
- Retention: Keep it in a safe, offline environment;
- Disposal: Reset the phone to erase data and physically remove the storage medium (e.g., remove the chip).
- Important: Ensure that no data is leaked or retained when wiping the original device.
